With another record setting year in the books for the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, two outstanding automobiles have taken the top prize at the 29th annual event.
Each year, best of show is selected from two distinct categories, Best of Show Concours d'Elegance for production road cars and Concours d' Sport for racing cars. This year brought two incredible vehicles these awards.
First is a stunning 1947 Delahaye 135MS Narval Cabriolet in Orange Brule, owned by collector car auction magnate and friend to Autobahn Automotive, Dana Mecum. One of six Narwhal cabriolets built, so named as its nose is reminiscent of the bump on a narwhal’s snout. This car was first exhibited at the 1947 Paris Auto Salon. It’s original owner, singer/songwriter Charles Trenet, shipped the car to the U.S. for his tour in 1948. This stunning cabriolet was winner of the Concours d'Elegance Best of Show.
Best of Show for Concours d'Sport, went to an equally impressive 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta owned by David MacNeil. Originally sold to racer Pierre Dumay, it made it's competition debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1963, driven by Pierre Dumay and Belgian co-driver Léon Dernier who finished 4th Overall and 2nd in Class. In 1964, it was driven by Lucien Bianchi and Georges Berger to overall victory at the Tour de France. This 250 GTO had podium finishes six more times during its extensive career.
